Each summer students lose learned skills. This is often referred to as “summer slump” or “summer regression”. Some regression is normal in all children; however, research has shown that students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math computation skills over the summer. The best remedy for regression is to prevent it from happening!
Here are some different ways to stay sharp over the summer and avoid the “summer slump”.

Here are some different ways to stay sharp over the summer and avoid the “summer slump”.
- Tenmarks offers a great review of 6th grade math.
- Also, on our BPS website, I highly recommend clicking on the “Basic Skills Handbook” and doing pages from there as often as possible. It is broken up into 20 topics and the answers are available as well.
- I have math calendars with daily activities available by clicking on the link below.
- I've listed several other websites that may be enjoyable for your students as well.
